A SAFE COMMUNITY
We affirm the dignity of all people and take seriously the responsibility to advocate for the powerless, protect the vulnerable, and create a safe community for all.
Protection of Children and Adults
At Holy Comforter, we believe that every human being is made in the image of God, regardless of their sex, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, abilities, or marital status. Therefore, each person deserves dignity, honor, and respect because they are designed and destined for happiness with God.
Consequently, we are committed to the safety and protection of all our members, but particularly the most vulnerable. All staff, vestry, and children's volunteers have cleared a thorough background check and have been trained in safeguarding practices and abide by our diocese’s Policy for the Protection of Children and Adults.
Harassment and Abuse
Holy Comforter strives to create and maintain an environment in which attendees, guests, volunteers, and employees are treated with dignity and respect. The environment of Holy Comforter should be characterized by mutual trust and the absence of intimidation, oppression and exploitation. Employees should be able to work in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere; likewise, attendees and guests should be able to worship safely and enjoy all aspects of Holy Comforter free from harassment. The accomplishment of this goal is essential to the mission of the community. For that reason, Holy Comforter abides by an anti-harassment policy. Read the entire policy here.
Trauma and Trauma Safety
Holy Comforter strives to understand the complex nature of trauma, to provide trauma-informed pastoral care, and to create a trauma-safe environment for survivors. We affirm the content of this white paper, Sexual Abuse and Trauma-Safety: A Biblical and Theological Reflection and abide by its four guidelines of Protection, Listening, Empowerment, and the Body.
Governance and Finances
Holy Comforter is governed by the vestry and the bylaws of its mother church, Incarnation Anglican Church. Holy Comforter’s financial records are summarized at Incarnation’s biannual parish meetings, and members may access full records at any time by request to the Incarnation Treasurer.
Please direct any questions regarding any of the above policies to the pastor of Holy Comforter.
