About Us

Our Story

The Church of the Holy Comforter started with two families gathering for dinner and prayer. It has since grown into a community of people who want to live with the same care and love that Jesus showed to others, including his enemies, and to invite others to experience God’s transforming love with us.

Our Beliefs

Holy Comforter is nourished by the same rhythms of life—the Daily Office and the Sacraments—that have sustained the church since the beginning. She receives all the Christian scriptures, both the Old and New Testament of the Bible, as the primary source for our beliefs and guide for our daily lives.

The heart of what Christians believe is summarized in three historic statements of faith: the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed

We are guided in the life of faith by the life-giving Spirit of God who Jesus, the Son of God, described as being “another Comforter, who will never leave us.” (John 14:16)

Our beliefs lead us to these core values

The Love of God

God loves each of us deeply. As we experience God’s love, our desire to return God’s love and to love our neighbors increases.

Life as a Gift

Life is a gift from God. Each day offers chances to notice God’s goodness, to be grateful, and to generously open ourselves to God’s work in every person, place, and experience.

Freedom

We are created to love, serve, and praise God with joy. Our freedom to fulfill our purpose grows as we let go of the things that distract us and hinder us from loving God.

Attention

We learn what draws us closer to God or pulls us away by paying attention to our thoughts, feelings, and desires. We want to choose what unites us—individually and as a community—with God and his creative work in the world.
