LETTER FROM KATIE • October 7, 2026

5000. No problem. We have enough playdough.

What a joy it was to see so many of you this past weekend on retreat with our friends at Incarnation! It was a rich and joyful time together as a church family.

We spent time meditating on Jesus’ feeding of the five thousand, remembering the abundance of Jesus and his invitation to bring him what we have, trusting him to do more than we could ask or imagine. We hiked, played lots (and lots!) of gaga ball, celebrated the many gifts God has given our community at the talent show, and then gathered around a campfire. We then celebrated the Eucharist together on Sunday before heading home. Thank you to everyone who helped make the weekend possible by sharing your time, talents, and energy!

This Sunday, we’ll be back at HMC and continuing our journey through Paul’s letter to the Philippians. We’ll be in Philippians 2:12–18, where Paul calls the church to live out the salvation we have received and to shine in our time like “stars in the sky.” It’s a passage that connects beautifully with our desire to mature as a Christian community—to become people who live, speak, serve, and love as Jesus and Paul did.

One of my kids’ favorite ways to memorize Scripture has always been through singing, and one of the songs I remember learning with them is “Stars” by Slugs & Bugs, based on Philippians 2:14–15. You can listen below. Perhaps it will get stuck in your head too—in the best possible way!

October 11: Potluck and Parish Meeting

After the service this Sunday, we’ll gather for our fall parish potluck and parish meeting. Please plan to stay and share a meal together. You can sign up here.

During the parish meeting, we’ll provide an update on the life of CHC, including what’s ahead for us as a church and an overview of our finances. We want these gatherings to be opportunities not simply to pass along information, but to cultivate a shared life and transparency among us as we seek to faithfully steward what God has entrusted to us.

I’m grateful for this church and for the many ways I see the grace of God at work among us. From a retreat full of laughter and fellowship to gathering around the Lord’s Table, we are being formed into a people who belong to Christ and to one another.

I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday.

Grace and peace,
Katie
